Peterborough Volunteer Fire Brigade targeted by vandalism

Peterborough Volunteer Fire Brigade, located on Bourges Boulevard, reported two incidents of vandalism to their station in the space of a week.

Cars in the station car park have had wing mirrors smashed or bent backwards, and a window was broken by a thrown object.

The fire station is unique, as the two fire engines it uses are crewed by volunteers who give their service for free.

Peterborough Volunteer Fire Brigade also plays a role as a community hub, regularly hosting Cubs, Beavers and Scouts for visits and activities.

In a statement to social media, the brigade described the incidents as "incredibly sad and disappointing," to see their station, which exists to serve the community, be targeted.

They added that both incidents have been reported.

A spokesperson for Peterborough Volunteer Fire Brigade said: "As a small charity that relies entirely on donations and volunteer time, incidents like this have a real impact on our ability to operate.

"Damage to the building, equipment, or security measures diverts funds away from community safety work and forces volunteers to spend time repairing the premises instead of training or responding to emergencies.

"We are committed to serving the people of Peterborough, and it is disheartening when our facilities are targeted.

"However, we are working closely with partners to improve security and ensure the brigade remains fully operational."
