A Cambridgeshire man who harassed his ex-partner and left her "living in fear" has been jailed.
Ashley Smith, 38, of Eastleigh Road in Eastfield, Peterborough, was sentenced to two years behind bars on August 20 at Cambridge Crown Court after admitting to three counts of harassment in breach of a restraining order.
The order had been issued on May 5 after Smith was convicted of stalking his former partner.
Less than a month after the order was imposed, the victim discovered multiple missed calls from a withheld number, which she believed to be from Smith.
He called again later that day and contacted a friend of the victim, who recorded the conversation.
In the call, Smith asked about the victim’s whereabouts and whether she was with another man.
He said that if she had a boyfriend, he would "kill him."
Smith went on to make 22 more calls that afternoon, all of which were ignored, and the following month he continued to contact her from a withheld number.
When she eventually answered, Smith threatened to come to her home and demanded to know who she was with.
He told her she had "ruined his life" and threatened that she "wasn’t going to get away with it."
In a call the next day, Smith said: "You're dead tomorrow, you'll die.
"I swear on my mother's life you're dead."
Detective Constable Kyle Miskin, who investigated the case, said: "Smith’s behaviour left the victim living in fear and constantly looking over her shoulder.
"Despite being made subject to a restraining order, he repeatedly ignored the conditions and continued to contact and threaten her."
Smith was arrested at Stansted Airport on June 18.
DC Miskin said: "Everyone has the right to feel safe following the end of a relationship.
"Stalking, harassment and controlling behaviour can have a devastating impact on victims, and we will always take reports seriously and do everything we can to protect those affected.
"I hope this sentence provides the victim with some reassurance and allows her to move forward with her life."
