A prison officer accused of smuggling mobile phones and cannabis into a Cambridgeshire prison has appeared in court.

Michael Palmer, of Pyhill, Bretton, appeared at Peterborough Magistrates' Court for his first hearing on September 25.

It is alleged he conveyed mobile phones and cannabis into HMP Peterborough between December 2023 and January 2024.

The 42-year-old is also accused of offering to supply "a quantity of cannabis" during the same period, contrary to the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.

No pleas were entered during the hearing and the case has been sent to Cambridge Crown Court for trial, according to His Majesty's Courts and Tribunals Service.

He was remanded on unconditional bail and will next appear on October 23, 2026.
