The 2026/27 Cambridgeshire Junior Squash League began with 30 players competing at Hunts County Squash Club this weekend.

The league is in its fourth season and was created to give junior players match experience. The county’s clubs are represented, with new players joining.

Six teams – Gorillas, Bears, Wolves, Sharks, Tigers and Pandas – will play at different venues during the season. Finals weekend in May will see the top three teams compete for the title, while the bottom three will battle to avoid extinction.

The opening round featured matches across all seedings, with organisers noting an increased standard.

The Gorillas lead the table by one point after the first round. The Wolves are second, followed by the Tigers and Sharks. The Bears had players missing matches and will use their matches in hand to try to move up in the next round.

Louis Crothall was named player of the round after making his league debut.

Organisers thanked all participants, referees and title sponsor A1 Gearboxes.

The next round will be held at Comberton Squash Club in December.
