A Cambridgeshire knifeman has been jailed after stabbing his ex-girlfriend’s new partner during a confrontation at her home.

Matthew Beckett, 32, of Damson Crescent, St Neots, admitted wounding or inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent and possessing a knife in public.

The attack took place less than two weeks after Beckett was ordered not to visit his former partner’s home as part of his bail conditions, after pleading guilty to harassing her in June this year.

Beckett arrived at the property on June 29, argued with the woman’s new partner and left.

He later returned, banging on the door while armed with a knife.

When the man opened the door, Beckett lunged at him with the knife.

The victim backed away as Beckett fled down the stairwell.

The man chased him, but Beckett stabbed him in the chest through the stair railings and pinned him against a wall.

The victim was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while Beckett was arrested.

He was sentenced to two years and three months in prison at Huntingdon Law Courts on Tuesday, November 3.

Detective Constable Luke Currie said: "Beckett had been given clear bail conditions to stay away from his former partner’s home, but chose to ignore them.

"Not only did he turn up at the address, but he also returned armed with a knife and this incident could easily have resulted in an even more serious outcome.

"I hope this sentence provides some reassurance to the victim and others affected by Beckett’s actions."
