With over 10 local businesses involved, and over 20 possible combinations of goodies, the Christmas boxes can be personalised and made with dietary requirements in mind.
Laura Lee and her partner James have a combined 25 years in the food and hospitality industry, and although they always imagined that they'd one day start their own business together they didn't quite foresee it happening during a pandemic! Still, the shift in attitudes to shopping and buying food has meant that the ethics of The Fig & Fox Company - helping small, independent companies and promoting sustainability - have been well-received in a climate where both are as important as ever.
The boxes contain treats and produce made in Peterborough and 50 miles around the city. Speaking to Peterborough Matters, Laura said: "I've been in Peterborough my whole life and some of these small businesses are ones I didn't know existed! We want to get these brand names out there, to bring the food community together.
"Our aim for the New Year with the business is to help small businesses, either by providing their products in our subscription boxes, or by providing consultancy, which is a part of our business we're hoping to expand. My husband is a chef and we have plenty of experience that we just want to share to help independent companies develop and flourish."
But first: Christmas.
The Christmas boxes are available to order now and can be delivered across the UK. Boxes should be ordered by December 11, but for anyone who may be seeing family sooner and need their gift ahead of time, The Fig & Fox are happy to arrange early arrival.
"There's something for everyone," Laura said. "Apple juice with a dash of ginger, for that warm Christmas taste; mulled wine marmalade; we even have an exclusive from Peterborough business Cocoa Cave, who have made some spiced caramel chocolates for customers to enjoy.
"This year has been tough for us all, but it's the support of our local friends that keeps us all going."
