According to an email seen by the BBC, The Restaurant Group (TRG) is set to tell staff today, June 3, that many Frankie and Benny's sites will not be re-opening as lockdown restrictions ease.

There are two Frankie and Benny's outlets in Peterborough, in Boongate and Hampton.

The email adds: “The COVID-19 crisis has significantly impacted our ability to trade profitably, so we’ve taken the tough decision to close these restaurants now.”

Although it is not clear which or how many sites will be affected, the BBC says the message was sent to managers in the TRG's Leisure Division, which consists of more than 200 Frankie & Benny’s restaurants.

This follows the announcement made in February that 90 sites across their brand portfolio would be closed, and the further decision to shut a majority of its Chiquito restaurants.

TRG, which also owns Wagamama, is one of the largest restaurant operators in Britain, with around 22,000 staff currently on furlough.
