It seemed like the perfect opportunity on Saturday against Middlesbrough to get their first away win especially when Neil Warnock’s men only had one fit defender in the squad.

However, a late penalty from Paddy McNair before Josh Coburn’s strike sealed another defeat for Darren Ferguson’s men, stretching that winless run of six games on the road.

Posh now find themselves 23rd in the Championship and face fellow strugglers in the Tigers at MKM Stadium this evening (7:45pm) in what could be a crucial game for both sides in terms of survival.

Team News and Predicted Line-up

Ferguson is expected to start a similar eleven that faced Middlesbrough on Saturday, with Sammie Szmodics leading the line as Jonson Clarke-Harris (suspension), Jack Marriott (injury) and Ricky-Jade Jones (injury) are all unavailable.

Harrison Burrows impressed when he came on at the Riverside at the weekend, and could be in contention to start.

Predicted Line-up: Cornell, Thompson, Edwards, Beevers, Butler; Taylor, Norburn; Dembele, Grant, Burrows and Szmodics

Opposition View

Unlike most opposition Posh have faced this season, the majority of players and supporters know what to expect from Hull City after going head-to-head with Grant McCann’s side for the League One title last season.

Similar to Posh, The Tigers have struggled to adapt to the second tier of English football as they currently sit 21st in the Championship, one point ahead of Ferguson’s side. However, they do come into the game in slightly better form, picking up four points in their last three games whereas Posh have failed to win in four.

McCann’s men have not only struggled to pick up results but also in front of goal, with Keane Lewis-Potter their top goalscorer with only three goals in 13 games.

Speaking in his pre-match interview, Ferguson said: “It is a big pitch at Hull City. I have watched a few of their games of late and I have seen Grant at a couple of our matches too so we both know quite a bit about each other’s sides.

"We know there were positives to take at the weekend, but ultimately we know where we need to improve, we have talked to the players about that, but they have to take responsibility when it comes to the final third.”

Last Meeting

You need to look back 12 months ago to find when these two sides last met at the MKM Stadium, and it was an enjoyable afternoon for the Posh supporters.

The Tigers took the lead in the first-half through Mallik Wilks after first-time strike into the bottom corner and past Christy Pym.

Posh fought back in the second-half and got back on level terms on 63 minutes when Joe Ward’s terrific cross was glanced home by Jonson Clarke-Harris at the near-post.

Then, on 75 minutes, Siriki Dembele sealed the three points for the away side when his deflected shot from the edge of the box crept past Matt Ingram and into the back of the net, stretching Posh's winning run to five games at the time.

Oh, how Posh would love to be in that scenario tonight, but instead they want to avoid a five-game winless run in the Championship. Thankfully, their recent record against Hull City can be a silver-lining for Posh supporters, wining the last two games at the KCOM.

Peterborough Matters Prediction

Tonight is huge. We have seen with Nottingham Forest and Reading FC how one win can change the momentum in this league, and Posh just need to get that away win under their belt. To be honest, you couldn’t ask for a better game to do that this evening than face fellow strugglers and recently promoted Hull City.
